Classes resume at Ocho Rios High

Classes resumed at the Ocho Rios High School in St. Ann following a two day protest by teachers at the institution.

The teachers stayed away from classes, to express their disgust at the repeated incidence of violence against some of their colleagues at the school.

The latest incident of violence occurred last Thursday, when relatives of a student went to the school with knives and threatened a teacher who reprimanded the student.

The school’s board is expected to make a decision regarding the action of the student.

The Jamaica Teachers Association (JTA) expressed concern about the attack on its members, while the Education Ministry promised to ensure that all teachers and students at the institution are protected.

An emergency meeting of the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) is scheduled for this afternoon to discuss the teachers concerns.
