A new police station is to be built at Hope Bay in Portland, to replace the current structure, which is in a state of disrepair.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Gilbert Scott, said construction for the new station is expected to begin shortly and should be completed by April.

The permanent secretary said it could cost the government approximately $70 million to construct the building.

He also noted that the Ministry would be seeking to address the problem of shortage of police officers at the station.

Currently, 18 officers are attached to the station, which serves 55 districts.
