Several bus and taxi operators from the Corporate Area and St. Catherine have withdrawn their service from several routes.

The operators who are members of the National Association of Taxi Operators (NATO) are protesting the increase in sub-franchise fees by the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC).

The Association’s members said they were informed of the proposed increases at a meeting with the JUTC’s management yesterday.

The affected routes include Waltham Park to Downtown, Kingston, Waterhouse to Cross Roads, Seaview Gardens to Downtown and Bayside to Spanish Town.

Executive Director of the National Association of Taxi Operators, Pearnel LaTouche said taxi operators are forced to pay up to $75,000 for the fees, while the bus operators are being charged up to $200,000.
