Special Rapporteur on human rights to address JA Parliament

Global Expert on violence and political science, Professor Paulo Pinheiro is to address Parliament today on the issue of violence and youth.
Mr. Pinheiro, who is a retired professor at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil, directed the 2006 United Nations Secretary General study on Violence Against Children.
The study highlights statistics that reveal the extent to which violence affects Jamaican children, and significant gender distinctions in how boys and girls are victimised.
In the United Nations, Mr. Pinheiro holds the position of Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Myanmar.
He is also a member of the Sub-Commission for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights, and Commissioner on the Rights of the Child for the Inter American Commission on Human Rights.
