Opposition urge UN to review constitution

The opposition parties in Curacao said they want the United Nations to review the constitutional restructuring process taking place in the Dutch Antilles.

They accused Holland of trying to colonise Curacao by putting conditions on the nation, before it can be afforded full internal self-governance.

Secretary General of the opposition MAN party, Humphrey Senior said the Dutch government is in violation of United Nations resolutions, which stipulate that no state can put conditions to a country to exercise its right to self-determination.

Curacao is part of the five island Netherlands Antilles federation, which is due to be disbanded with separate arrangements for their future governance.
