A meeting is scheduled for today between the Medical Association of Jamaica (MAJ)and the Health Ministry to discuss several issues regarding the free health services regime.

The abolition of service and user fees in the public health sector is to take effect on April 1.

President of the MAJ, Dr. Rosemarie Wright Pascoe is concerned that the initiative will put a strain on the country’s public health system.

Dr. Wright Pascoe said the sector’s human resources must also be improved for the free healthcare programme to run efficiently.

She said the quality of Jamaica’s health product might be compromised if the issues are not resolved.
