Cuba\'s new President, Raul Castro is to lift a ban on a wide range of consumer electrical appliances.

Cubans will be allowed for the first time to own DVD players and computers.

An internal government memo leaked to the Reuters News Agency said the ban may also be lifted on video machines, electric pressure and rice cookers, microwaves and car alarms, as well as 19-inch and 24-inch Television sets.

A top government official has confirmed that the plans are being adopted.

Air conditioners will not be available until 2009, and toasters the year after due to limited power supplies.
