Unions seek to remove JPS HR Director

Unions representing workers at the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) will today be seeking to have the company’s Human Resources director removed from the committee overseeing a job reclassification exercise at the JPS.

President Emeritus of the National workers’ Union (NWU), Clive Dobson said the HR director has been a major cause of the delay in implementation of the job evaluation and compensation exercise.

On Tuesday, unions threatened that workers could take industrial action if their demands were not met.

Mr. Dobson said he hopes there will be a resolution when President and Chief Executive Officer of the JPS, Damian Obiglio meets with union representatives this afternoon.

Since April last year, an Oversight Committee comprising the union and JPS representatives has been working towards implementing the review.

The review is in keeping with a Court of Appeal ruling, which ordered that the company abide by a 2003 salary structure outlined by the Industrial Disputes Tribunal.
