The police in Trinidad are continuing investigations into an explosion that rocked a part of the capital late last night during which one person was seriously injured.

The incident reportedly occurred a few metres from the Roman Catholic Church in the heart of the capital.

The police said Sean Roberts, 18, from the neighbouring island of Tobago, who was among a group of people waiting for transport, was injured.

According to eyewitnesses, a man was seen throwing the device towards the group.

Police Commissioner, Trevor Paul who visited the scene at midnight, told reporters that he was not prepared to speculate on the incident and that investigations were still being carried out.
