PAJ call for review of Broadcasting Commission

President of the Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ) Desmond Richards is calling for a review of the membership of the Broadcasting Commission.

Commenting on the recommendation by the Commission for the suspension of the licence of News Talk 93 FM, for breaching the television and broadcasting regulation, Mr. Richards said the action was ill-advised.

He said while he agreed that talk show host Dr. Kingsley \'Ragashanti\' Stewart had made an error, the entire staff of the station should not be punished.

He said the broadcasting commission acted in a high-handed manner and has called for practitioners who understand the operations of the media to be made part of the commission.

The Information Ministry is expected to make a decision on the request by the Commission for the station’s licence to be suspended.

The recommendation was made after the Commission found that there were two successive breaches of the Television and Sound Broadcasting Regulations.
