The St. Kitts and Nevis government has announced plans to combat the increase in food prices.

According to BBC reports, the Cabinet has agreed to remove the consumption tax from ten commodities including chicken and baby diapers.

The government said some of these items would also be subjected to further price cuts, when the authorities implement a CARICOM decision to remove or reduce import taxes.

The government said the prices of certain basic food items and basic medicine for chronic diseases, have now been regulated.
