Trade negotiator at CARICOM, Dr. Patrick Antoine said the region will have to start thinking about developing a new set of tax measures.

He reported this is needed when the deal on the economic partnership agreement (EPA) with the European Union closes.

Negotiators are to meet in Bridgetown on Thursday and Friday to finalise the EPA. The deadline for the EPA is December 31.

The meetings are considered crucial for the region’s efforts to work out a satisfactory new liberalised trade and investment deals with the EU.

There have been some late concessions, allowing the phased duty-free entry of European automobiles, petrol and mobile phones.
