The police were maintaining a strong presence in several areas of Downtown, Kingston up to late last night.

The police said gunfire in several areas last night may have been as a result of an earlier incident yesterday afternoon in which 13 people were shot.

The police reported that there was gunfire in the Tower Street, Harbour Street, East Queen Street, South Camp Road, South Side, Law Street and Church Street areas of Downtown.

The police reported that around 3.30 p.m. yesterday, a group of persons were standing at the intersection of Law and Church Streets when men travelling in a motorcar opened fire hitting seven persons.

The gunmen reportedly proceeded to Gold Street, where they again opened fire hitting six more persons.

The police had not established a motive for the shootings.
