Work permit fees increased
The increases in work permit fees are to take effect today.
Labour Minister, Pearnel Charles said a non-refundable fee of $14,000 would be charged for each work permit application.
It will now cost $7,200 to replace a lost, stolen or destroyed work permit identification card.
Work permits, which are valid for 3 months, will cost $27,000, while those between 3 and 6 months will cost $54,000.
A permit for 6 to 9 months will cost $81,000, while a year’s permit will cost $108,000.
Mr. Charles said the funds earned from the new work permit regime would be used to train Jamaican workers in the various field in which the permits are given.
He said inspectors are currently visiting work sites to ensure employees have the proper permit.
