Guyana’s Opposition party, Peoples National Congress said it is blaming the government for the rising prices of basic food items.

Opposition Leader Robert Corbin told supporters that bad management on the part of the Bharrat Jagdeo government was responsible.

President Jagdeo has denied that a 16 percent Value Added Tax is responsible for increasing food prices.

He has listed drought, the rising price of crude oil, and the shifting of land from food production to produce bio fuels from corn, as among factors contributing to the problem.
