Jamaican 100-metre record holder Asafa Powell has cancelled plans to compete until late June because of a pulled muscle in his chest.

Manager Paul Doyle said the move is precautionary and is not expected to affect Powell’s preparations for the Beijing Olympics in August.

Powell will miss competitions in Doha, Oslo and Eugene, Oregon, as he recovered.

His first race when he returns will be the National Athletics Championships to be held from June 27 to 29 at the National Stadium.
