Two Haitians were killed yesterday when a tug boat anchored in Sandy Point, North Caicos suddenly exploded.

Emergency officials told the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) that three Haitians and a resident of Turks and Caicos were cooking on board the vessel when it exploded.

Two of the Haitians were reportedly killed on the spot and an emergency worker said they were burnt beyond recognition.

The third was injured in the blaze that ensued, while the Turks and Caicos national suffered a broken leg.

Investigators were unable to say what caused the explosion.

The three Haitians were believed to have been residents in the country for some time and were employed as seamen.
