Former Deputy Solicitor General Douglas Leys is to begin his tenure as solicitor general today.

He takes over amid controversy over the way he was selected for the post.

The controversy started after the former Public Services Commission (PSC), recommended that, Deputy Solicitor General, Professor Stephen Vasciannie fill the position, which was vacated by Michael Hylton.

However, Prime Minister, Bruce Golding, took issue with the appointment and recommended the dismissal of the PSC members on the ground of misconduct.

The dismissal of the former PSC is the subject of a dispute currently before the court between Mr. Golding and Opposition leader, Portia Simpson- Miller.
