UPDATE: Eight cops shot, two killed, woman wounded in St Andrew; State of Emergency remains

The Constabulary Communication Network is reporting that two policemen were killed and six others shot and injured during a shootout with gunmen on Mountain View Avenue, Kingston 2 last night.



The identities of the dead cops have not been released.



One of them was a sergeant from the Motorized Patrol Division and the other a member of the East Kingston Division.



It’s reported that about 11:30 last night, a woman turned up at the Rockfort Police Station and reported that she had been shot while driving along Mountain View Avenue.



She also told officers that another motorist had been attacked by armed men.

The police from the East Kingston Division went to help the motorist when they came under sustained gunfire.



During the gunfire two of the men were hit.



Other cops who went to rescue their colleagues were also fired at, resulting in six of them being shot.



The situation was eventually brought under control and the injured policemen taken to hospital where the two died.



Two others have been discharged while four remain hospitalized in stable condition.



Meanwhile a strong police/military presence is now along Mountain View Avenue and motorists are being advised to be extremely cautious.



Another cop was injured in a shootout in Hannah Town yesterday



In the meantime a second civilian casualty has now been reported.
