Investigators in Portland are still to establish a motive for the death of a German man whose body was found with multiple stab wounds along the roadway at Spring Bank in the parish this morning.

He is 61 year old Helmut Steiner of Spring Bank.

Detective Sergeant Ralston Henry of the Port Antonio police said the body was discovered just after 1 a.m. with stab wounds to the chest, slashes to the upper body, and a large wound to the neck.

The police also said Mr. Steiner was found clad only in his underwear.

Steiner, who was the owner of Jamaica Heights Resort, was last seen alive around 10.15 p.m. last night by his wife, Christine.

The couple lived at the resort with their 10 year old son.

The police said residents in the Spring Bank community reported hearing screams for help coming from near a shop where the body was found lying in a pool of blood.

Residents on the resort’s property also found a hat, along with a pair of sneakers.

However, neither the residents nor Steiner’s widow could identify the clothing.
