Tourism Minister announces teachers scholarship fund
Member of Parliament for East Central St. James, Ed Bartlett, has announced a $2 million scholarship fund programme for 20 constituency teachers.
The scholarships are tenable at local and overseas institutions during the current academic year.
The funding represents a 100 percent hike over last year’s sum, and a similar percentage increase in the number of teachers who will benefit from the scholarships
Some of the local institutions include the Sam Sharpe Teachers College in Montego Bay, Mico, in Kingston, Church’s Teachers College in Mandeville, and the University Of The West Indies and UTECH, in St. Andrew.
This year’s qualifying teachers will be drawn equally from the early childhood system, primary and secondary schools.
They will be bonded and expected to return and teach in the constituency for a period of time similar to the duration of their studies.
The Bartlett constituency education outreach is 10 years old.
