At least 11 people, including five children, have died after an overcrowded passenger ship sank off the southern coast of Haiti.

A spokesman for the United Nations in Haiti said most of the estimated 100 people aboard the crowded ferry swam to safety.

Rescuers are reportedly still looking for some survivors.

The ship, which was travelling from a south-western port to the capital, Port-au-Prince, capsized after hitting a reef.
