Haiti rejects new Prime Minister
Haiti’s Parliament has rejected the president\'s choice for a new Prime Minister.
The nominee, Ericq Pierre, reportedly received the support of the Senate, but lost the crucial vote of approval in the lower house of parliament.
His nomination failed by a vote of 51 to 35 for, with nine members abstaining.
This leaves President Rene Preval with the task of finding another nominee, who will be accepted by both the Senate and Parliament.
The Senate dismissed the former Prime Minister, Jacques-Edouard Alexis, approximately a month ago for failing to address the country\'s problems.
A number of governments and organisations, including the United Nations, have warned that delaying the appointment of a prime minister risks undermining Haiti\'s fragile stability.
