Minister of State in the office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for, Project implementation and service delivery, Daryl Vaz is scheduled to meet with Spanish investors at the Spanish Embassy in Kingston today.

It is expected that Mr. Vaz will be addressing their concerns regarding the country’s investment climate.

It is reported that at least one Spanish investor has put plans to construct a hotel on hold while two others have changed their minds about investing in Jamaica.

The reports come amid controversy surrounding the construction of a hotel in Montego Bay by Spanish investors, the RIU Group.

The spotlight was turned onto the RIU Hotel project after news broke that a fourth floor had been constructed without approval.

The RIU Group claims it had received approval to construct the buildings, but the Parish Council said it neither gave permission for the changes to the building permit nor were the required fees paid.

The site has since been closed by order of Prime Minister Bruce Golding.
