Criminals running the show from behind bars
The Police High Command says there is an abundance of evidence to show that some inmates are still directing their criminal enterprises from inside the Horizon Adult Remand Centre in St Andrew.
Police Commissioner Owen Ellington made the disclosure yesterday during a press briefing called by the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) to refute allegations of physical abuse by inmates at the prison.
Chief of Defence Staff Major General Antony Anderson said the allegations are being made by some inmates who are seeking to return to the general prison population where they can influence the activities of their gangs.
But Commissioner Ellington, in expressing full support for the JDF, says it is important to house dangerous inmates in a manner that denies them the freedom to influence behaviours outside the prison.
