Somerset will not take legal action against Gayle

Somerset will not be taking legal action against Jamaica and West Indies opener Chris Gayle for breach of contract.



The destructive batsman had signed to play for Somerset in this season's Friends Provident 20/20 competition.



However, after resolving his differences with the West Indies team management, has made himself available for the limited-overs section of the tour of England.



Somerset acted quickly to sign South Africa batsman Faf de Plessis in place of Gayle - and after toying with the possibility of suing Gayle, they have had a rethink.



Chief executive Guy Lavender issued a statement on the club website, which stated that after taken legal advice, the club has concluded that it is not in the best interests of Somerset, Chris Gayle, or cricket more generally to pursue the matter any further.



Gayle has not played international cricket for over a year, after falling out with the West Indies Cricket Board for disparaging comments he made in a radio interview.
