NWC to seek rate increase

The National Water Commission (NWC) is to seek a water rate increase shortly.

The NWC is now preparing to develop a tariff review to submit to the Office of Utilities Regulation.

Vice President of Human Resources at the NWC Harold Minott says the last tariff review was approved by the OUR in 2008.

Minott told members of Parliament’s Public Administration and Appropriations Committee this morning that the cost of water production and distribution has escalated.

But he says the NWC has had to be holding rates while costs are increasing.

But committee member Mikael Phillips raised concern about the planned application for a rate increase, saying the NWC has failed to take steps to increase efficiency to earn more revenue.

Technocrats from the Ministry of Water were summoned to the committee meeting at Gordon House to provide an update on the NWC’s operations for the current fiscal year.
