Govt to roll out National Food and Nutrition Security Policy
Jerome Reynolds, Gleaner Writer
The Government says it will soon roll out the National Food and Nutrition Security Policy which is aimed at increasing access to safe, healthy foods for Jamaicans.
The policy was tabled in the House of Representatives yesterday by Agriculture Minister, Roger Clarke.
Clarke said the policy will provide the framework within which the government will operate as it moves to increase food standards and promote healthy living.
Among other things, the policy speaks to making sufficient quantities of nutritious foods available in the country.
Clarke said it also mandates increased access to adequate resources to allow persons to acquire appropriate foods for a nutritious diet.
The agriculture minister said the implementation of the National Food and Nutrition Security Policy will also underpin the government’s efforts to reduce the food import bill.
