'Transport Authority vehicle auction irregularities already addressed'

The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre has been unable to get any further information on the Transport Ministry on the sale of vehicles from the Transport Authority.

The Route Taxi Association of Jamaica has described as frightening the revelation that in 2008, the Transport Authority sold 114 seized vehicles to a company for approximately $483,000.

The information contained in a report by the Auditor General’s Department shows that the company through the process of sealed bids, purchased each car for an average of $4,238 from the authority.

Today, citing recent management changes at the Authority, officials said they would have to make checks before being able to comment.

But Permanent secretary in the Transport Ministry, Audrey Sewell, says the matters raised by the auditor general have already been addressed.
