Private sector participation in CARICOM needs boost – Nicholson
Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister, A.J. Nicholson says the local private sector should move to resurrect the regional private sector organisation.
According to Senator Nicholson, this is necessary to expand trade and economic development in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
Speaking during last week’s sitting of the Senate, Nicholson acknowledged that there are impediments to the smooth movement of goods in the CARICOM and Single-Market Economy.
According to Senator Nicholson, it is regrettable that at the regional level, it appears that there is no functioning association representing the private sector.
He is urging the local private sector to contribute to the agenda for the upcoming Council and Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.
He said the proper defence of Jamaica’s interest in CARICOM rests largely on the feedback and input from the private sector.
