Police corporal charged for corruption
A police corporal from the St Mary Police Division has been charged for breaching the Corruption Prevention Act by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB).
Police reports say that in March of last year, the Corporal allegedly contacted the family members of a prisoner and informed them that he could facilitate the release of the detainee.
He then reportedly solicited one million dollars for the service.
A report was made to the ACB, and following investigations, a file was submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who ruled that he be charged.
When he appeared in the Port Maria Resident Magistrate’s Court earlier today, he was granted bail in the sum of $200,000.
He was ordered to surrender his travel documents, and is to return to court on July 25.
