Human rights lobby, Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) is welcoming the ruling from the Director of Public Prosecution that the three constables be charged for the murder of Vanessa Kirkland and the wounding of six other civilians.

JFJ’s executive director, Dr Carolyn Gomes says the organisation is pleased that a ruling has finally been handed down.

Gomes is also welcoming the decision of the DPP to bypass the preliminary enquiry process and have the case brought directly to the Home Circuit Court.

Gomes says it’s now important that there be a strong prosecution that is responsive and thorough.

She says the prosecuting team must also be one that understand the importance of signaling that impunity from members of the security forces will not be tolerated.
