Political parties in the Cayman Islands are in the final weekend of campaigning for Wednesday's general election which some observers believe could also determine the future direction of this British Overseas Territory.

Electoral officials have confirmed that 58 candidates will contest the national poll across all three Cayman Islands.

With six seats up for grabs in the capital George Town where 7, 500 voters will elect representatives to the Legislative Assembly, some political observers were anticipating the highest number of candidates in modern history.
