The National Works Agency (NWA), says there has been a smooth start to today's first full test of traffic changes along the Western Bridge spanning the Sandy Gully in the vicinity of Market Place, St Andrew.

The bridge has been closed to facilitate emergency repairs.

The roadway is a major thoroughfare for motorists and commuters.

The NWA's Communication Manager Stephen Shaw says there is a smooth flow of traffic and the police are on hand to maintain order.

The bridge will remain closed until June 02.

During the period of closure traffic is being accommodated along the eastern bridge.

The NWA is advising persons to add an additional hour to their travel times in order to compensate for any delays experienced.
