PM to miss CARICOM/US meeting

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller will miss next Tuesday’s Heads of State and Government of CARICOM meeting with US Vice-president, Joe Biden in Trinidad and Tobago.
The meeting is being convened at the request of the United States.
Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller will be returning from a visit to Ethiopia on the day of the meeting.
Minister of National Security, Peter Bunting will represent Simpson Miller.
Information Minister, Senator Sandrea Falconer said the CARICOM/US meeting will last for two hours followed by the presentation of a joint statement by Biden and host Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
She said the meeting will discuss important regional economic, social and political issues.
The Minister added that CARICOM is using the meeting to lay the ground work for the next CARICOM/US Summit.
Senator Falconer said the trip will cost approximately $203,500.
