Holness calls for human development policy and strategy

Opposition Leader Andrew Holness is calling for the government to frame a human development policy and strategy to drive improvement in the labour force.

He says such a strategy must involve education and training, which is more closely aligned with the needs of industry and national development.

In his Labour Day message he says a deepening crisis facing the labour market, is the rising level of youth unemployment.

Holness argues that planning for the future must specifically focus on the youth and making them employable.

He’s suggesting the creation of a national apprenticeship programme to expose youths to the world of work in exchange for their voluntary service.
