Ministry schedules emergency meeting with NCB/Staff Association

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has scheduled an emergency conciliatory meeting with representatives from the National Commercial Bank (NCB) and its Staff Association.

The meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. this afternoon at the ministry’s North Street office.

The parties are in dispute over salary claims.

The labour ministry says it is prepared to work with all parties to arrive at an amicable resolution of outstanding matters.

About 1,900 workers at branches islandwide have taken industrial action.

Chairman of the NCB Staff Association, Paul Stewart says the workers unanimously agreed to a strike at a meeting on Saturday after the bank gave an unsatisfactory response to their 17-points wage claim and has refused to continue negotiations.
