In light of recent cyber attacks on critical public bodies, the government has moved to establish a Cyber Security Task Force.

Minister of State in the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, Julian Robinson, told parliament this afternoon in his contribution to the Sectoral Debate that the task force will work to enhance national security especially on the information highway.

He said the setting up of the task force will strengthen the government’s response to cyber threats which could negatively impact critical public and private operations or infrastructure.

The Technology State Minister said the body is expected to be operational next month.

Robinson said a cyber emergency response team will also be established.

He said the body will assist in protecting the country’s Internet infrastructure by coordinating defences against and responses to cyber-attacks and or threats.

Robinson said the team is expected to begin working by December.
