FOOTBALL: JFF appoints Alfredo Montesso as technical director
Alfredo Montesso, assistant coach of the Reggae Boyz, has been promoted to technical director ahead of a crucial set of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying games next month.
The Brazilian appointment came just over four months after his countryman Walter Gama was fired from the position.
Gama and goalkeeper coach Armando Bracali, also of Brazil, were sacked by the Jamaica Football Federation following the Reggae Boyz’ wretched performance at the Caribbean Football Union Caribbean Championships.
Surprisingly head coach Theodore Whitmore was not sacked.
Four Brazilians were originally lured to Jamaica in a package deal worth US$50,000 per month.
Two of the upcoming CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying matches that Montesso will be in charge of as technical director are at home.
Those matches are against Mexico on June 4 and the United States three days later.
There is also an away game against Honduras on June 11.
The Reggae Boyz are currently at the bottom of the six-team group after three games.
