'Disclose source of retrofitting funds'

Published:Wednesday | May 29, 2013 | 10:19 AM

The Jamaica Civil Society Coalition is calling for the government to disclose the source of the $75 million allocated to retrofit a number of police stations across the country to house juveniles.

Chairperson of the Coalition, Carol Narcisse, is also questioning how much of that amount will be spent on the 14 facilities that are to be built.

She says members of the coalition also want the government to disclose to the nation how much it is costing to pay a security firm to secure the empty Windsor Girls home.

Narcisse says the JCSC is also alarmed that the Inter-Ministerial Working Group on Children in Detention has not devised a workable plan for amending the child care and protection act to eliminate the provisions by which children get placed in adult correctional facilities.
