Private children homes plea for increased funding
Jerome Reynolds, Staff Reporter
Head of the Association of Private Children’s Home is appealing to the Government to increase funding to these facilities.
Sister Susan Frazer laments that the allocation from the State is not enough to meet the needs of children in their care.
She said the maintenance granted from the government increased from $3,000 to $5,000 in 2008 following a cost of care study by the Child Development Agency.
The association head further pointed out that the allocation was increased by an additional amount of $1,000 in 2012.
According to her, the funding arrangement does not take into account the services being offered by the private homes and the finances needed to keep the facilities operational.
