Classes were suspended at several schools in Eastern Portland following more than five hours of torrential rainfall, which also left a number of roadways inundated.

The inclement weather, which started shortly after 10 a.m. battered sections of the Rio Grande valley, Breast Works, Boundbrook, Folly, and the town of Port Antonio, forcing dozens of shoppers and other consumers to seek refuge in various business establishments.

The unfavorable weather forced the abandonment of classes at Port Antonio Primary, Fellowship Primary and Junior High, Advent Education Center, Hill Preparatory, and Port Antonio Infant.

Port Antonio Primary was the worst affected as a result of a cross drain at the school, which was blocked, leaving 10 classrooms at the back of the school flooded.

This resulted in the suspension of classes for the afternoon shift.
