FOOTBALL: Rivoli move ahead of Playoffs

Published:Thursday | May 30, 2013 | 9:48 AM

Spanish Town outfit Rivoli United are now closer in their quest to return to top-flight football.

Rivoli United made a giant step following the first set of return matches in the Premier League playoffs yesterday.

They defeated Volvo of St Ann 3-0 to move atop the four-team playoffs standings.

The game was played at Prison Oval in Spanish Town.

With the victory, Rivoli United moved to eight points, one ahead of August Town, who entered the day with a two-point lead.

August Town failed to improve their seven points as they were beaten 1-0 by former Premiership outfit Wadadah at Jarrett Park in Montego Bay.

Damion Reid scored the lone goal in the 13th minute to hand Wadadah their first points from four games.

The top two teams at the end of the four-team playoffs will qualify for next season’s Red Stripe National Premier League competition.
