Explosive opener Chris Gayle and former Sri Lanka spin-wizard Mutiah Muralitharan will play for the Jamaica franchise in the upcoming Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Twenty20 tournament.

Gayle has been the most sought after Twenty20 players around the world.

Just last month Gayle smashed his way into the record books as he hit the fastest-ever century in professional cricket.

The 42-year-old Muralitharan has taken more international wickets than any other player in history, with 1347 scalps across Test, One Day International and Twenty20 International formats.

Gayle’s Jamaican and West Indies teammate Marlon Samuel is assigned to the Antigua team as the franchise player along with Australian Ricky Ponting.

New West Indies One-Day International Captain Dwayne Bravo will lead the Trinidad and Tobago franchise.

The foreign franchise player assigned to T&T will be Ross Taylor from New Zealand.

West Indies Test and Twenty20 captain Darren Sammy will play for the St Lucian Franchise and partnering him there will be the South African Hershelle Gibbs.

Trinidad and Tobago’s mystery off-spinner Sunil Narine and Pakistan’s Mohammed Hafeez have been assigned to Guyana while Keiron Pollard and Shoaib Malik will play for Barbados.

The inaugural CPL, which replaced the Caribbean Twenty20, will run from July 30 to August 24.
