Man in custody in connection with vendor's death

A man believed to be of unsound mind, is now in police custody in connection with the death of an elderly woman in Downtown Kingston this morning.



The victim has been identified as 84-year-old newspaper vendor, Sylvia Sewell, of a Hanna Town address.



Reports indicate that the man who attacked her was held and taken to a police station shortly after the incident.



It’s reported that the elderly woman was sitting and selling newspapers at the intersection of Beckford and Orange streets, Kingston, when she was attacked.

Onlookers say she was approached from behind.



She ran and the attacker kicked her leg and she fell.



He then proceeded to chop her.
