The police say they have killed a 'gangster' and recovered one of the guns used in the robbery of a business place in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland last night in which an American visitor was shot and killed .

The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) says the 'gangster' is identified only as ‘Bigga’ of a Savanna-la-Mar address and that he is wanted for several crimes including murder, rape and armed robbery.

The CCN reports that ‘Bigga’ and some of his cronies reportedly went to a business place in the town shortly after 7 p.m. where they held up the business and robbed customers. Shots were fired and a man later identified as a foreign national and another person were shot. The foreign national later died.

The police were summoned and during a confrontation with ‘Bigga’ and members of his gang, he was shot and later pronounced dead at hospital.

The CCN says a 9mm Glock semi-automatic pistol was seized from the alleged gangster. It is suspected that the gang used the gun in several criminal activities in Westmoreland, Hanover, St Elizabeth and St James involving members of the gang.

Police teams from Savanna-la-Mar and other formations in Western Jamaica have been combing parts of the parish in search of other members of the gang since last night.
