Principal, lecturer and head of the Social Sciences Department at the Mico University College Doran Dixon has dismissed claims that his controversial comments has damaged the image of the institution.

Dixon has come under heavy criticism after he characterised the dispute over leave entitlements between the Ministry of Education and the Jamaica Teachers’ Association as being between a mongrel dog and a lion-hearted cat.

Some persons have called for him to apologise and resign from the university as they believe his comments have hurt the Mico brand.

However, Dixon says he rejects those suggestions.

He points out that he has been associated with Mico for more than 30 years and remains committed to serving the university.

Dixon stressed that he was speaking in a personal capacity when he addressed the JTA gathering.

The university has dissociated itself from Dixon’s controversial comments which it described as unfortunate and distasteful.
