More skills training for disabled
Persons with disabilities are to benefit from additional skills training courses as the Abilities Foundation – a division of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security – has expanded its curriculum.
Managing Director at the Foundation, Suzanne Hamilton, says the expansion is aimed at better serving the needs of persons with disabilities.
The foundation now offers courses such as garment construction, furniture making, and office administration.
Hamilton says additional training courses to come on stream are: design and décor, computer repair, data operation, and crop production.
Managing Director of the Abilities Foundation says the programmes are being offered jointly between the Ministry and the HEART Trust/NTA, after which a National Vocational Qualification of Jamaica certificate is issued at the end of each course.
She said the expansion of the curriculum will help to increase the employment prospects for disabled persons.
