Former T&T Minister spared jail sentence

Former Trinidad and Tobago Government Minister, Rennie Dumas has been spared a prison sentence on assault conviction.



Dumas has been fined TT$3,500 or one month in jail for common assault under one Act, and $15,000 or two years in prison under another Act.



In 2011, Dumas was found guilty of assault after using a gun to slap businessman Roger Simon in the face.



Simon who was the owner of a landscaping company, was accused of trespassing, and stealing materials from lands belonging to the former Minister.
