The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) says it does not expect any fallout from Saturday's murder of a tourist in Sav-la-Mar, Westmoreland.

The American, whose name has not been released, was one of two people killed during a holdup at an establishment along Great George Street.

JHTA president Evelyn Smith says the local authorities are in touch with the family of the American tourist.

She also says the Association is closely monitoring the situation.

The US Embassy has released a statement expressing sadness at the killing of the American tourist.

It noted that the majority of American tourists who visit Jamaica return home without incident.

The US Embassy says cooperation between the US and Jamaican security officials remain strong.
